• Dinesh Karthik to lead Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2018

    Kolkata Knight Riders have made the wicketkeeper-batsman, Dinesh Karthik as their skipper for this year’s IPL.

    It will be Dinesh Karthik’s first season with the KKR and he was bought for Rs. 7.4 crore by the franchise. Robin Uthappa, a front runner for KKR has been appointed as the vice-captain.

    After KKR failed to retain their former skipper, Gautam Gambhir, the main speculation among the fans was who would captain the team. There wasn’t a firm hand for the captaincy but experts predicted that D Karthik and R Uthappa would make great captains for the team.

    But recently, it was rumored that Chris Lynn is likely to be the KKR skipper for this season. The KKR franchise had broken all the guesswork on Saturday by revealing the captain and vice-captain.

    Dinesh Karthik, 32, has been part of the IPL since 2008 and has played for five different teams- Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, Kings XI Punjab, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Lions over the last ten seasons.

    Captaincy is not new to him for he had been a part of the leadership for Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket.

    What Does New Captain Feels About his New Position?

    When asked about his selection as the KKR skipper, Karthik has said that it is an honor to lead one of the most successful team in IPL and he is excited to work with the talented squad that has both experience and youth.

    Uthappa who has been playing for KKR since 2014 has also stated that the role of vice captain is exciting and he hopes to add value to the team like he has always done before.

    KKR’s CEO, Venky Mysore has happily said that it is a new phase for KKR with a new yet experienced captain like D Karthik and vice-captain like R Uthappa.

    Across the 10 seasons of IPL, Dinesh Karthik has played 152 matches and scored 2903 runs, 88 catches and 26 stumpings.
